I’d Take a Pancake Butt Over No Limbs Any Day

Let me start this out by saying: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH WANTING A BOOTY.

When I was younger, I was really thin and always struggled with keeping weight on. My GOAL was to gain weight – and a butt – because people (family, friends, acquaintances) always commented on my size. College is the first place I noticed girls wanting to lose weight and/or make their butts look smaller….My inner reaction:

It took a while to wrap my head around the culture shock: most minority women (at least the ones I knew) loved their curves and wanted to upkeep them while most of the white women I met were trying different ways to minimize their curvature back there.

“I’m tired of magazines
Sayin’ flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back” – Baby Got Back

A few days ago, I saw a Facebook status about black women in the news “dying and losing their limbs over black market butt shots”. I’ve heard about this before and even had a very recent conversation with my boyfriend about Nicki Minaj’s butt – real or fake? Is that a butt pad? Does she use butt injections to plump up her famous dunk? He said yes; I disagreed. My reasoning? Most black women naturally have big booties. It’s not a “new phenomenon like white women with ass” (Ludacris, Blow It Out. I had to!)

Like I said before, there is NOTHING wrong with wanting a booty. Everyone is entitled to wanting one. But this wanting a new booty seems to be an obsession for some minority women who are either less fortunate in that area…or just greedy for more butt fat.

After reading this story in Essence magazine about a woman who lost her arms and legs after suffering from severe pain for MANY years due to black market butt injections, my thought: I’d take a pancake butt over the possibility of losing limbs any day.

Many people will automatically call these women stupid. After all, who goes to a “pumping party” and has an unauthorized person inject silicone into their butt for as low as $299.99 – maybe even less? It’s an obvious unwise decision. But without playing the blame game, please consider the affect that minority men have on the psyches of these women. I’m NOT blaming minority men because no one held a gun to these ladies’ heads, forcing them to grow their butts, BUT women want to attract men. And what do minority men like? Big butts. It seems like the bigger the butt, the better (boy, that’s a tongue twister).

Like I said before, there is nothing wrong with wanting a booty. I wanted one, got one and think it flatters my body. BUT my health isn’t in danger. If a man only notices you for your ass then that man doesn’t deserve the whole you.

Hopefully in the future, minority women will stop to think about the risks of butt injections. Also, there are so many other options out there (squats are my favorite because I’m proof that they work!).

I’m curious to know, what are you guys’ thoughts on this? Do you think there are other factors to this problem of black market butt injections?
